Mr and Mrs Gormley - Their Love Story

Ktima Alassos Wedding
Ktima Alassos Wedding

Getting married abroad can often feel daunting and scary, but hearing first-hand from lovely couples who have already been through the process can give you some piece of mind to know what your experience will be like when booking your wedding with us.

Here’s a little insight into our wonderful couples wedding and their advice to future couples.

Where and how did you first meet?

Barry and I met in a wee pub in Glasgow where people use to head after work on a Friday. I danced around him whilst singing on karaoke and then approached him at the bar a bit later on. We had seen each other about at work events so it was easy for me to start a conversation and thank God I did, as had it been left to Barry I would still be waiting for that initial chat. Good job only one of us is shy J

What’s your Love Story?

On our first date (after ten pin bowling and Nandos) we spent hours just chatting, I think we covered every possible subject you could think of that night. We found out so much about each other but I knew there was still so much more that I wanted to learn. From then it was a whirlwind of surprise dates, always arranged by Barry and always something new that I had never done before – go-karting, archery, indoor rock climbing, quad biking to name a few! We had the best adventures and the best times! We were both in our mid 30’s and both said we had never considered marriage as something we really wanted, somehow that just changed over time though and we just knew we would spend forever together. It still came as a massive shock though when just over a year after meeting Barry got down on one knee at the top of Inchcailloch (a small islet on Loch Lomond) and asked me to marry him! I could barely say yes through all of the sobbing, but I managed and it was the happiest I had ever felt! It sounds cliché but we really are the best of friends and we are just so excited for all of the adventures still to come and all of the new memories to be made as husband & wife!

What made you choose Cyprus for your wedding?

We just wanted a small wedding and thought the best way to do that was to have it abroad. I had been watching a lot of Sun, Sea & Brides to be at the time and so that is how we ended up choosing Cyprus lol. We are so glad we did though, it is just the most stunning place!

What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding abroad?

100% get a wedding planner and trust in them! It is so difficult when you are so far away, at the beginning you just worry about everything and so I imagine the worry and stress would be so much worse if you were trying to do it all yourselves. I would also say 100% make sure the wedding planner is actually based in Cyprus as they will have so much local knowledge and will have shopped around for the best deals and know the best local suppliers. Our wedding planners were worth their weight in gold, they took care of everything and were able to offer advice on every single thing we needed!

What made you choose to have a wedding planner?

We didn’t have a clue where to start, all we had decided was that we wanted to get married in Cyprus but had no clue where to go beyond that. The thought of trying to organise something in a whole other country was just so overwhelming so having a wedding planner on-board was a no-brainer for us.

How long before your wedding did you begin planning?

We started planning our wedding late 2019 as we were initially due to get married in September 2020 however Covid hit and so we made the decision to reschedule to September 2021.

Was there a specific moment of your day that you found extra special?

The sunset photoshoot, it was amazing! It was a time for us both to get away from everyone and just take in what was going on, just the 2 of us (well and the photographer lol) surrounded by the most beautiful views and sunset. It was the first wee bit of time on our own as a married couple and it just felt amazing!

Do you have a favourite photo you would like us to share?

Our favourite photo of our wedding day is of us walking back up the aisle after the ceremony. We love this one because it is our first walk together as husband and wife and we look so happy in it.

Anything else you would like to tell us about your day?

It was honestly the best day of our lives, from start to finish. I cannot recommend getting married abroad enough! There is just no way I think you could beat that feeling of being surrounded by those closest to you in such a beautiful setting with beautiful weather. The whole day just seemed so effortless as we didn’t actually have to do anything on the day other than turn up! Our wedding planners Hannah & Nicki had taken care of everything and were the ones ensuring everything was going to plan and running as it should on the day. There was literally not a single thing we needed to take care of, it was all done for us. All we had to do was relax and enjoy every second – which we absolutely did!
